Strategic Operations Director for the University of Texas System

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Operations Director to join our team at the University of Texas System. This is a full-time position that requires a strong background in operations, strategic planning, leadership, or a related field.
As a Strategic Operations Director, you will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director in carrying out the functions and activities of the Office of the Director of Police across the U.T. System. You will develop and maintain professional contacts with internal and external stakeholders, act as project manager, coordinating complex law enforcement initiatives and departmental projects, and assist the Executive Director in the coordination and execution of strategic and long-term planning.
You will serve as a principal advisor to the Executive Director of ODOP, overseeing a range of critical functions including supervising administrative staff, policy development, special assignments, meeting preparation, and communications. You will work on implementing and refining law enforcement policies, streamlining administrative decisions, operations, and processes, and communicating ODOP priorities and positions to internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Develops, leads, and monitors special projects, initiatives, and engagements, ensuring deadlines and objectives are met and stakeholders are updated.
- Evaluates effectiveness and efficiency of law enforcement policies and practices, providing guidance and recommendations and preparing plans by which to carry out departmental directives.
- Serves as liaison between the Executive Director and employees and external partners, managing internal and external communications to ensure effective information flow within and from ODOP.
- Manages and coordinates the ODOP administrative team, leading staff meetings, developing agendas, tracking action items, and setting key performance indicators to measure and improve team performance.
- Conducts research, compiles and analyzes law enforcement statistics, and prepares briefs, summaries, and special reports for the Executive Director requirements as they relate to standing, licensing, discipline, hearings and training.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Bachelor's Degree required, with 7 or more years of progressively responsible experience in operations, strategic planning, leadership, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of law enforcement policy and trends, principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation, and excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, with a high level of organization and analytical problem-solving skills.

This position is subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) is mandatory. A background check will be conducted on candidates under final consideration. The estimated annual salary for this position is $85,000 - $110,000, depending on experience.
