Critical Care Technician

The Critical Care Technician is a vital member of the Intensive Care Department patient care team, working collaboratively with nursing staff to provide exceptional patient care. This role requires a certified and/or licensed technician to perform a variety of delegated tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities- Assist RN with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients as required.
- Observe patient's condition, recognize changes in patient status, and report findings to the RN.
- Clean, procure, and return equipment and supplies.
- Operate patient monitoring equipment, record vital signs, and run rhythm strips under the direction of the RN.
- Assist with ordering and maintaining stock items.
- Chart in electronic Health Record as appropriate.
- Maintain competency to perform special procedures such as Foley catheter insertion and removal, venipuncture, laboratory specimen collection, and vital sign recordings.
- Perform patient care duties to include obtaining and documenting vital signs, providing patient hygiene, and maintaining clear and respectful communications with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Adapt patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
- Perform clerical duties to include accurately processing the transcription of orders for the patient plan of care.
- Make timely and accurate notifications related to transcription of orders.
- Make interdepartmental requests and follow up as required.
- Assist clinical staff with the admission, transfer, discharge, and returning surgical/post-procedure patients.
- Obtain diagnostic test results from printer/computer/department and immediately provide it to nursing staff.
- Perform quality assurance on charts (verify that chart forms are filed and labeled correctly, all orders were transcribed correctly, allergies are noted in appropriate places, forms are processed, etc.).
- Respond timely to staff, patient, and visitor requests.
- Demonstrate adherence to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health.
- Take personal responsibility to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and standards as promulgated by state and federal agencies, the hospital, and other regulatory entities.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in hospital patient care or an acute-care setting preferred.
- BLS certification required.
- Current in ONE of the following certifications required: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Patient Care Tech (PCT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic.
