Kitchen Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Kitchen Assistant to join our team at the University of Richmond. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our kitchen facilities.
Responsibilities- Collect and wash soiled service ware, pots, pans, utensils, carts, and other cooking equipment.
- Maintain kitchen work areas, janitor closets, cleaning equipment, chemical storage areas, and service ware holding areas in clean and orderly condition.
- Restock service ware and cooking equipment in designated areas.
- Sweep, vacuum, shampoo, and wash floors, as directed.
- Clean restrooms, loading dock, dumpster areas, offices, lobby areas, meeting areas, dining rooms, serving areas, and the kitchens.
- Moves furniture and staging, and completes related tasks to set up dining rooms and meeting areas.
- Operate, empty, and clean dishwashers, pot machines, floor machines, power washers, garbage disposal, food pulper, and other small cleaning equipment, according to established safety measures.
- Dispose of trash and waste materials according to established procedures.
- Restock cleaning equipment including soap, sanitizers, and paper towels in all areas.
- Train new employees.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
- Record information in all required logs; alert supervisor to any discrepancy.
- Assist with stores operations, as needed.
- Assist staff and customers as needed.
This position requires long periods of standing and walking, and the ability to lift 50 lbs., in conditions that are often, hot, humid, or cold. Must be able to safely use and operate typical kitchen tools and equipment. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, on occasion.
Qualifications- Knowledge of safe ware-washing and chemical-handling practices.
- Skilled in using effective time management to accomplish tasks.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures.
- Ability to exercise flexibility and to work calmly and efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service.
- Ability to monitor and maintain established quality-control standards.
- Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior custodial experience desirable.
- Full-time, non-exempt position.
- PM shift: 12:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.; schedule may vary; rotating weekends.
- This position is designated as essential personnel and, during inclement weather and emergency situations is required to be available to the University as needed.
Pay Grade 1 - Starting rate of $15.00 per hour. Hired Candidates are eligible for a signing bonus.
