CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

SUPERVISORY POSITION: No

POSITION SUMMARY
At Carlsbad Educational Foundation (CEF), the Before and After School Care Support Specialists collaborate with fellow team members to serve as mentors, leaders, and role models for students in the Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD). They are responsible for developing and implementing innovative and high-quality programs and projects. All responsibilities must be performed in accordance with city, state, federal, and company policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE SUPPORT SPECIALIST
  • Ensure a safe and engaging environment for elementary-aged students during before and after school hours.
  • Engage with students, parents, school administrators, and program directors, while supervising other aides dedicated to supporting children in a before and after school setting.
  • Welcome parents and students with warmth and friendliness.
  • Provide equal treatment to all families.
  • Conduct headcount checks and monitor student locations at all times.
  • Oversee campus environments and boundaries continuously.
  • Lead and engage students in age-appropriate STEAM lessons, including:
Math and science: astronomy, physics, nutrition, and gardening

Technology, computers, and engineering

Art: collage, painting, sculpture, and more.
  • Encourage creative expression, teamwork, and sportsmanship through various activities such as:
Crafts: crochet, mobiles, masks, puppets, sewing, card making, and beading

Music: dance, singing, and free expression

Outdoor and indoor activities including sports, organized games, and board games
  • Guide students in developing good study habits, respectful behavior, and community service through activities such as:
Homework Club

Service projects (e.g., canned food drives and senior center initiatives)

Conflict resolution strategies
  • Verify authorized pick-ups by checking IDs.
  • Collaborate to create a safe and enjoyable environment for students.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the classroom at all times.
  • Keep documentation logs updated.
  • Actively engage in protocols for student health, safety, and well-being.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
If you experience bullying, harassment, or discrimination, it is essential to inform your manager or the director immediately. Your concerns will be taken seriously, and you will not face retaliation. Management will address the concerns appropriately, prioritizing your protection and the best interests of CEF. You are expected to comply with management directives, even if you disagree. Written concerns are welcome for management review.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND CLEARANCE
Aide Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older (except as permitted by law).
  • 1+ years of classroom experience preferred, but not mandatory.
CCLD requirements (currently, or to be met within a specified timeframe upon employment for School-Age Teacher):
  • California Department of Justice fingerprint and background clearance required.
  • Criminal Record Certification.
  • Child Abuse Index Check.
  • Physician's TB and health clearance for childcare work.
  • Pediatric CPR/First Aid (required within three months of employment).
  • Valid California Driver's License.
