Ultrasound Technician Job Description

Job Title: Ultrasound Technician

Job Specialty: Ultrasonography

Job Duration: 20 weeks

Shift: 8-hour nights

Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Experience: Minimum of one year performing abdominal, pelvic, and vascular ultrasound

License: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Registered Vascular Technologist

Certifications: ARDMS and RVT Certification, BLS - American Heart

Must-Have: Completion of CHEA or USDOE accredited Ultrasound Program, Associate's Degree, Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center, Ability to work independently

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical procedures using non-ionizing, high-frequency ultrasonic waves for diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment and interface with various computer systems, including electronic medical records and PACs systems.
  • Prepare exam rooms, equipment, and supplies according to hospital policy.
  • Demonstrate a professional level of knowledge of ultrasound techniques and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to allay fears and elicit cooperation, and relay patient information to physicians and nursing personnel.
  • Analyze ultrasound images to recognize anatomical abnormalities.
  • Adjust equipment settings appropriately to target the ultrasound and identify irregularities during the procedure.
  • Use protective clothing such as eye and face protection, gowns, and gloves.
  • Responsible to Medical Imaging Director, Radiology Manager, and Ultrasound Supervisor.
  • Adhere to a drug-free policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with ARDMS (AB), ARDMS (OB/GYN), ARDMS (B), RVT, RT (VS) (ARRT), or RT (BS) (ARRT) certifications are preferred. Also preferred are those with one year of experience in abdominal, pelvic, and vascular ultrasound.

Work Environment: The work environment involves exposure to electrical, biohazards, and high-frequency ultrasonic waves, as well as infectious agents through daily contact.

Guaranteed Hours: Guaranteed hours will not apply during orientation (12 non-billable orientation hours).
