POSITION TITLE:

Custodian

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

To execute responsibilities in accordance with established protocols for cleaning and maintaining university facilities under general oversight; assist in the preparation and dismantling for special events as instructed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver custodial services to assigned areas.
  • Perform sweeping, damp mopping, spray buffing, stripping, and waxing of floors; vacuum, shampoo, and spot clean carpets.
  • Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, walls, doors, trim, and display cases; wax and polish furniture and fixtures as necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness in restrooms and shower areas, ensuring an adequate supply of towels, soap, and similar items; may also clean kitchen supplies and equipment as required.
  • Wash windows and glass doors; may also clean and dust Venetian blinds.
  • Replace light bulbs and clean light fixtures.
  • Manage trash removal and maintain clean, lined trash containers.
  • Sanitize drinking fountains, ashtrays, blackboards, and pencil sharpeners.
  • Occasionally assist with moving tasks as directed.
  • Operate and ensure the proper use of cleaning equipment.
  • Provide general maintenance or groundskeeping services for designated areas.
  • Keep pathways to designated buildings clear of snow and debris.
  • Inform supervisor of any damaged or missing furniture, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Assist with emergency cleanups and special cleaning projects as directed.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist in training others on proper and safe cleaning methods and techniques.
  • May be responsible for unlocking and/or locking designated buildings as directed by supervisor.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This role is essential for supporting campus clients and requires the successful candidate to be present on campus.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: Preferred 1 year of relevant work experience

Licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements: None

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One or more years of custodial work experience.
  • Experience in cleaning commercial or industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity with cleaning and maintenance methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to the trade.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate equipment/tools relevant to the role.
  • Capability to lift 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
