FOIA Compliance Specialist

A prominent client of TekStream Solutions is in search of a skilled and proactive FOIA Compliance Specialist to contribute to a significant federal initiative, requiring an active Secret clearance. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with three days on-site and two days remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with various components of the organization to review responsive records and manage the flow of cases between offices.
- Aid in the detection of classified materials, including Restricted Data and critical military technologies.
- Assist in identifying the equities of the client's components.
- Determine information that is exempt from disclosure according to relevant laws and regulations, ensuring proper application of exemptions.
- Conduct necessary coordination and maintain documentation accordingly.
- Provide reproduction services for documents required in case records.
- Follow up on agency coordination to ascertain the status of reviews.
- Manage case registration, including Classified Document Registries and other administrative tasks.
- Maintain accurate database and records management for each case using the client's systems.
- Review recommendations for information release from the client's components and assist in resolving discrepancies.
- Process electronic redactions of exempt information for case documentation.
- Prepare comprehensive Vaughn indices that include: (1) identification of each withheld document; (2) the statutory exemption claimed; and (3) an explanation of how disclosure would harm the interests protected by the exemption.
- Draft internal and external correspondence for case attorneys for review and approval.
- Analyze information pertinent to ongoing litigation and accurately identify responsive materials for further action.
- Identify privileged information within records related to ongoing litigation.
- Create detailed privilege logs that encompass: (1) identification of each document containing privileged material; (2) the privilege or exemption claimed; and (3) an explanation of how disclosure would compromise the interests protected by the privilege or exemption.
- Provide support for additional litigation requirements as necessary.
Qualifications
- **Active DoD Secret clearance or Interim Top Secret clearance is required to commence work.
- Bachelor's Degree in a field related to information management or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience in case analysis, including conducting FOIA or similar reviews, identifying exemptions, and applying redactions.
- Familiarity with identifying and safeguarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Knowledge of the nine FOIA Disclosure Exemptions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical skills, reading comprehension, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, work collaboratively in a team environment, and adapt to established workflows and processes.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written.
