Job Title: Maritime Systems Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and integration of advanced maritime systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop mechanical systems for maritime applications using CAD tools and other design software.
  • Lead mechanical engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Conduct analysis and testing of mechanical systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and performance standards.
  • Develop and implement test plans, conduct tests, and document test results to ensure the quality and reliability of mechanical systems.
  • Prepare technical documentation for projects, including design reports, test plans, and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including program managers, project managers, fabrication shops, and external vendors, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and analyzing mechanical systems for maritime applications.
  • Proven experience with naval architecture principles, including hull design, stability, and structural analysis.
  • Experience with CAD tools, such as SolidWorks, CREO, or other design packages.
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling, stress, and thermal analysis using finite element software.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing process and ability to work with external vendors.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with the design and integration of uncrewed vehicles and undersea sensors.
  • Experience with NAVSEA Temporary Alteration Design Package development.
  • Leadership experience, including project management and team leadership.
