Position Summary

The Manufacturing Laborer plays a crucial role in the production process, engaging in various tasks related to metal melting and pouring, while also supporting the grinding operations. This position requires attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

Foundry Duties:

  • Remove molds and apply jackets and weights on each mold.
  • Transport sand, castings, or other foundry materials onto conveyor systems.
  • Utilize hand tools, machinery, and other foundry equipment effectively.
  • Break sand molds from completed castings using appropriate tools.
  • Remove reinforcing wires from castings on the conveyor.
  • Conduct visual inspections of products for quality assurance.
  • Assist molders by dumping poured molds into the shaker unit at designated times.
  • Complete safety training and adhere to safety and environmental policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the shop area, including sweeping and shoveling sand.
  • Ensure safe operations by following established safety protocols.
  • Attendance is critical to job performance.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Grinding Duties:

  • Inspect surfaces for defects and irregularities.
  • Operate grinders to eliminate scratches, excess material, and burrs.
  • Replace worn grinding disks, wheels, and belts as necessary.
  • Utilize stand or pedestal grinders to refine castings according to specifications.
  • Handle small to medium-sized castings, ensuring compliance with inspection standards.
  • Grind surfaces to maintain contours and achieve smooth finishes.
  • Attendance is critical to job performance.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or foundry environment is preferred.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts based on seasonal demands.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, use hands for handling tools and materials, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. The employee must maintain focus and attention to detail to ensure safety and quality in operations.

Work Environment:

Employees may work near moving mechanical parts and be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Protective equipment, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, is mandatory.
