Community Safety Officer

Job Title: Community Safety Officer
Immediate Supervisor: Director of Environmental Services
Basic Function: Ensure the safety and security of residents while maintaining the integrity of the community environment.
Skill, Experience and Educational Requirements: Candidates should possess skills typically acquired through successful completion of high school, including the ability to read and write at a high school level. Strong communication skills are essential. Candidates must demonstrate qualities of honesty, reliability, and confidentiality. Previous experience in security roles is preferred.
Physical, Mental or Sensory Requirements: Ability to endure extended periods of walking and possess unimpaired vision and hearing. Candidates should be in good physical health and capable of assessing and responding to the needs of the facility effectively. Sound judgment and professionalism are expected at all times.
Principal Duties:
- Meet the performance standards set by the immediate supervisor and/or Department Director, completing all assigned responsibilities which may evolve based on resident needs, staffing levels, and operational circumstances.
- Evaluate the facility's security and accept responsibility for its safety.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of community operations.
- Conduct oneself in a manner that fosters a secure environment.
- Maintain open lines of communication with colleagues to ensure the preservation of the facility. Actively collaborate with team members at all times.
- Participate in all relevant in-service training and staff meetings as required.
- Adhere to all established community policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Keep the Department Director and Executive Director informed at all times.
- Engage in routine and special assessments of security requirements.
- Incorporate organizational standards into daily performance.
- Fulfill all assigned responsibilities.
- Responsible for locking and unlocking doors at designated times.
- Conduct patrols of grounds and parking areas according to the assigned schedule.
- Perform interior patrols of the building as per the assigned schedule.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations.
- React to fire alarms as necessary.
- Monitor outdoor lighting and report any outages.
- Document license plate numbers of unfamiliar vehicles.
- Occasionally answer phone inquiries.
- Accurately and objectively report unusual incidents both verbally and in writing.
- Regularly inspect building systems (fire extinguishers, boilers, generator) and report any malfunctions.
- Assist nursing staff during emergencies involving residents.
- Be familiar with and assist with minor maintenance issues as needed.
- Question and identify unfamiliar visitors as appropriate.
- Document activities of the position consistently and accurately.
