Overview

This position is open to U.S. Citizens and U.S. Nationals.

Key Responsibilities

The individual will be responsible for the upkeep, assessment, and repair of all machinery within a hydroelectric power generation facility and associated pumping stations.
Duties include overhauling, fixing, evaluating, and conducting performance assessments on turbines, generators, motors, air compressors, pumps, pressure regulators, valves, pipes, and other mechanical components.
The role also involves operating the facility's Domestic Water Treatment Plant, which includes testing domestic drinking water and collecting samples for analysis.
The technician will monitor sensitive laboratory equipment, calibrate instruments, and repair mechanical controls, as well as fabricate parts necessary for daily operations.
Heavy machinery operation is required, including mobile cranes, backhoes, and forklifts.
The position entails performing welding tasks using both gas and electric welding equipment.
Additionally, the technician will operate various cranes and perform rigging tasks related to the maintenance and repair of hydroelectric power generation machinery.
Familiarity with technical drawings and specifications is essential for completing necessary documentation such as job hazard analyses and work plans.
The technician will also be responsible for planning work sequences and selecting appropriate tools and materials for assignments.

Employment Conditions

Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Nationals.
Suitability for federal employment will be assessed through a background investigation.
A resume and supporting documentation are required.
Candidates must maintain a valid State Driver's License, as the role involves operating government vehicles.
A successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician is mandatory.
Within one year of entering the position, candidates must obtain a California Water Treatment License to operate the Domestic Water Treatment Facility.
Current or former federal employees must submit a performance appraisal.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate sufficient experience and training to perform the duties of this position independently.
Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions will be evaluated based on job elements, requiring a score of at least 2 points on the screen-out elements.
The position requires a skilled Plant Mechanic or Machinist with expertise in at least two of the following trades: Welder, Pipefitter/Plumber, Millwright, Crane Operator/Rigger.
All relevant experience, including volunteer work, will be credited.

Education

This position does not permit the substitution of education for experience.
