Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team at Peoria Unified School District. The successful candidate will work closely with our Special Education Teachers, Psychologists, and School Administrators to provide support and interventions to students with significant disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) philosophy to support students with disabilities.
  • Assist teachers and school psychologists in applying behavioral management strategies and teaching social skills, coping skills, and communication skills to students.
  • Facilitate positive interactions between students and staff.
  • Contribute to the development of behavior support plans and intervention plans, including data collection and charting.
  • Recognize and redirect negative interactions between students.
  • Provide crisis intervention and physical management for students with aggressive behavior or safety risks.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA regulations.
  • Assist in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Ensure safety and appropriate behaviors in learning environments.
  • Promote positive social interaction on the playground and other settings.
  • Maintain accurate records of student activities and behavior.
  • Participate in behavior modification plans and teacher pre-planning sessions.
  • Attend district professional development classes.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED; AA degree or 60 college credit hours preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience supporting students with disabilities.
  • Able to participate in additional behavioral tech training.
  • Pass a fingerprint and background clearance check.
  • Obtain and maintain an Arizona driver's license.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy supplies and materials.
  • Ability to physically manage or support student elopement.
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours.
  • Pass classes in and obtain current certification in CPI, First Aid, and CPR.
