Key Responsibilities and Qualifications

As a Clinical Laboratory Specialist, your primary duties will include conducting moderate and high complexity laboratory tests. You will analyze, review, and report test results while ensuring the integrity of specimens by adhering to established laboratory protocols.

Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Accurately receiving specimens, generating labels, and entering patient data without errors.
  • Operating and troubleshooting laboratory testing systems.
  • Identifying issues that may impact test performance or result reporting.
  • Ensuring test selection and reference ranges are appropriate for patient demographics.
  • Guaranteeing timely availability of laboratory results.
  • Conducting quality control activities relevant to each assay and responding appropriately to any outlier results.
  • Participating in proficiency testing in applicable technical areas.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in an acute care hospital laboratory is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field.
  • Completion of a clinical rotation or internship from an accredited medical technology program, or a 50-week military training course or equivalent, qualifying for the registry exam in medical technology.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist by recognized organizations such as ASCP, NCA, AMT, or HEW.
  • NCA Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) certification is preferred.
