About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at Connecticut Children's. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support patient check-in and check-out processes, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience for our patients and families.
  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, ensuring timely and accurate scheduling.
  • Answer and direct calls, providing excellent customer service and support to our patients and families.
  • Process pre-authorizations and pre-certifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and file medical records, maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation.
  • Provide cross-coverage for other administrative roles, ensuring seamless support and coverage.
  • Maintain clinical files according to organization/department protocol, ensuring accurate and up-to-date documentation.
  • Process patient-related correspondence, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
  • Ensure efficient patient flow, preparing treatment rooms and equipment for patient examinations.
  • Provide procedural support following department-specific guidelines, ensuring accurate and safe procedures.
  • Perform initial intake of patient, including interviews and vital sign collection.
  • Accurately record and update patient information, ensuring accurate and up-to-date documentation.
  • Perform daily Quality Controls (QC) for all Point of Care (POC) testing, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Obtain specimens and perform patient POC testing per policy, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Under provider and/or RN direction, perform tracking and retrieval of patient lab/diagnostic testing results, facilitating timely provider review and follow-up.
  • Under provider and/or RN direction, perform administrative functions of patient prescription renewal process, ensuring compliance with policy.
  • Provide cross-coverage for other clinical roles, ensuring seamless support and coverage.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent; vocational training may substitute.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant training program approved by the American Association for Medical Assistants or American Medical Technologists, or similar program provided by the military.
  • Current BLS/CPR for Providers from American Heart Association, or American Red Cross, required within 1 month of hire and maintained thereafter.
  • Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) granted by the American Association of Medical Assistants or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) granted by the American Medical Technologists.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Basic literacy and proficiency in computers, Microsoft Office applications, Practice Management System(s), and Electronic Health Record Systems (E.H.R.).
  • Excellent interpersonal, phone, customer service, problem-solving, and communication skills.
