Job Title: Clinical Technician III

The Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Technician III to join our team. As a Clinical Technician III, you will play a critical role in the operation and maintenance of specialized medical equipment, as well as the collection of whole blood and screening of blood donors for eligibility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment, including cell separators and automated analyzers.
  • Collect whole blood and screen blood donors for eligibility.
  • Perform fingerstick and tests samples for hematocrit and/or hemoglobin, and cell counts using automated analyzer.
  • Assist with loading, transporting, and setting up blood drive equipment.
  • Perform record keeping and data collection using manual and computer methods.
  • Perform quality control of equipment and report equipment malfunctions to a Donor Center Nurse, Donor Center Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Clinical Technician III Lead.
Requirements:
  • Three years of health care experience involving direct patient care, including some use and maintenance of specialized medical equipment.
  • At least one year of prior experience at the level of a Clinical Technician II or equivalent.
  • Public contact experience with excellent customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to meet University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program standards.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to collect data and maintain accurate records.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform phlebotomy.
  • Ability to operate and perform skilled maintenance on various types of highly specialized medical equipment.

The department intends to hire for two positions from either Clinical Technician I, Clinical Technician II, or Clinical Technician III, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please apply to the specific position for which you wish to be considered or all three.
