Head Start Transportation Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Head Start Transportation Specialist to join our team at Waccamaw EOC, Inc. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to work in a dynamic environment and make a meaningful contribution to the lives of children and families.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and update records of vehicle maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Supervise the preventive maintenance and emergency repairs of all Head Start vehicles.
- Ensure daily vehicle inspections are completed by drivers and that vehicles are safe, clean, and in sound operating condition.
- Develop estimates for budget preparation in the areas of vehicle expense and maintenance.
- Ccoordinate plans for staff to acquire a CDL driver's license and provide support for their training.
- Gather and analyze data needed for reports relating to the transportation program.
- Monitor vendor bills for repairs on vehicles and ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
- Maintain accurate files and record-keeping systems and provide data and reports as required.
- Coordinate transportation services on a day-to-day basis and ensure timely arrival and departure of children.
- Maintain a file of DOT physicals and CDL renewals and track expiration dates.
- Train and evaluate drivers, ensuring they meet necessary qualifications and standards.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the transportation system and suggest improvements.
- Schedule vehicle repairs and manage bus maintenance with vendors based on service contracts.
- Assist in coordinating transportation services with Center Supervisors for medical and dental appointments.
- Participate in interviewing process for transportation employees and assist in preparing contracts.
- Bachelor of Social Science Degree or related field plus two years' experience in social work or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Able to attend overnight meetings and workshops.
- Basic computer skills and ability to maintain and retrieve files.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with children, staff, and parents.
- Ability to pass a SLED/FBI criminal background check, Central Registry Check, and Staff Health Assessment for Caring for Children.
The estimated salary for this position is $45,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
