Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fluid Dynamics Systems Engineer to join our team at the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University. As a key member of our research team, you will play a critical role in designing, testing, and analyzing complex fluid dynamics systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the design, assembly, and operation of complex test articles and experiments at our research facilities and government test facilities
  • Perform hands-on work in the preparation and execution of fluid dynamic experiments
  • Collaborate with a team to acquire, analyze, and present technical results
  • Interact with other engineers, researchers, and academic faculty to advance our research goals
Additional Responsibilities for Senior Positions
  • Design and analyze turbomachinery applications, including pumps, propellers, turbines, and compressors
  • Develop and analyze vehicle control concepts, flight dynamics, and external aero/hydrodynamics
  • Manage projects of small to moderate size and scope, contributing to determining feasibility and objectives
  • Collaborate on proposal development and submission for funded research
  • Author and present technical reports, presentations, and papers to technical employees
  • Maintain and cultivate external research relationships
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related discipline
  • 2+ years of related experience
  • Strong background in aerodynamics or fluid mechanics
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to present to professionals and convey information to drive action or decision
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or Ph.D.
  • Experience with design and execution of experiments using wind or water tunnels
  • Familiarity with turbomachinery applications and corresponding blade and stage level phenomena
  • Familiarity with vehicle control and external aero/hydrodynamics
  • Familiarity with solid modeling/CAD systems, MATLAB, or Simulink

$86,000.00 - $191,000.00
