Healthcare Assistant

Northern Light Health is seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to support our healthcare team. In this role, you will prepare patients for provider visits, assist with minor surgical procedures, and perform in-office testing and treatment.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, work well in a team environment, and prioritize providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare patients for provider visits by reviewing their medical history and discussing any concerns they may have
  2. Assist providers with minor surgical procedures, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available
  3. Perform in-office testing and treatment, adhering to standard protocols and procedures
  4. Triage patient calls as needed, responding promptly to urgent matters
  5. Remind patients of upcoming appointments and ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed
  6. Collect necessary reports and information prior to patient appointments, maintaining accurate records
  7. Execute standing orders, routine preventative services, and prescription refills as authorized by the provider
  8. Notify patients of applicable results and communicate recommendations for diagnostic studies as instructed by the provider
  9. Provide educational information to patients, addressing any questions or concerns they may have
  10. Answer questions from patients and their families, supplying them with resources and guidance as needed
  11. Understand and properly utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMRs), documenting all required information accurately
  12. Perform tasks efficiently, minimizing waste of supplies, materials, and time
  13. Work effectively within established time frames, prioritizing tasks and managing workload
  14. Demonstrate safe behavior in all aspects of the job, adhering to hospital policies and procedures
  15. Stay up-to-date with industry developments through continuing education, seminars, and professional publications
  16. Support and contribute to practice administration, collaborating with colleagues to achieve shared goals
  17. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times, handling sensitive information with discretion
  18. Order or notify proper staff of need for clinical supplies/stock supplies, ensuring timely replenishment
  19. Properly utilize and maintain all equipment, adhering to manufacturer guidelines and best practices
  20. Schedule and reschedule patients as necessary, coordinating with providers and other stakeholders
  21. Maintain a safe environment, promoting a culture of safety and respect within the workplace
  22. Report and address identified environmental hazards promptly, taking corrective action as needed
  23. Address violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed, escalating issues to supervisor if necessary

Requirements:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required, or a minimum of 2 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant, with expectation of becoming certified or registered within 90 days of hire date
  • Experience working in a medical office setting is preferred
  • Computer literacy and basic software skills are essential
  • Successful completion of a course of study recognized by the State of Maine as an MA or Certified Nursing Assistant Licensure
  • Certified Nursing Assistant as determined by the State of Maine
  • BLS certification is required

Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000 per year
