We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Probation Officer to join our team at the City and County of San Francisco. As a key member of our Juvenile Probation Department, you will be responsible for supervising probation officers, clerical staff, and volunteers in a unit(s), directing planning, organizing, and reviewing their work, and ensuring that staff's work quality and quantity are maintained at a high level.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and direct the work of probation officers, clerical staff, and volunteers in a unit(s), ensuring that their work is completed to a high standard and that they are meeting their performance goals.
- Plan, organize, and review the work of staff, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff, identifying areas for improvement and developing plans to address any issues.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that staff are following best practices and that the department is operating efficiently.
- Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure that the department is meeting its goals and objectives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community-based agencies and other city departments to ensure that the department is providing effective services to the community.
- Prepare and submit reports to management, including statistical information on clients served and services provided.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including client files and staff performance evaluations.
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in the social sciences or a closely related field.
- Four (4) years of full-time verifiable experience as a probation officer working with offenders in a criminal justice system, with at least two (2) years of experience working with juvenile offenders.
- Valid California Class C driver's license at the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles, trends, and techniques in the delivery of juvenile probation services.
- Experience with evidence-based practices and interviewing techniques.
- Ability to work tactfully and persuasively with families, community groups, court representatives, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
- Effective public speaking skills, including planning and preparation of material and effective presentation.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex legal and behavioral science information related to the criminal justice process.
