We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Scientist to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a critical role in providing technical direction and developing data science solutions to support the US Navy's navigation systems.
Key Responsibilities- Develop data collection, processing, and analysis efforts to assess the performance of navigation systems for various US Navy platforms.
- Provide technical direction and leadership to navigation subject matter experts on the use of data science techniques for answering critical questions and solving technical challenges with navigation systems.
- Develop models and simulations to describe data, predict events, and prescribe a course of action that directly reflect stakeholder's needs.
- Acquire domain knowledge in the field of maritime navigation and use that insight to build forward-thinking analytical solutions to test and evaluate prototype and operational navigation systems.
- Circulate knowledge by articulating ideas clearly through effective visualizations, papers, and presentations to technical staff, management, and government decision makers.
- Masters or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field.
- 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated track record of excellence in technical leadership or project management from concept development through execution and close out.
- Experience developing AI/ML algorithms and/or translating mathematical concepts using efficient and well-documented code.
- Strong proficiency in developing analytical pipelines, data science applications and dashboard tools, and statistical and machine learning methodologies for specific quantitative goals.
- Experience with Python and/or MATLAB.
- Experience with using version control software, such as Git.
- Able to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance.
- Knowledge of MLOps, Agile, and DevOps processes.
- Experience designing and implementing AI/ML algorithms for time series data.
- Experience in writing technical proposals or other forms of business development.
- Skilled at building meaningful relationships across organizational boundaries.
- Hold an active Top Secret security clearance.
