Peer Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team at Lakes Region Mental Health Center. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in promoting mind-body recovery and resiliency in mental health settings.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and oversee Peer Supports services for the project.
- Establish and maintain mutually supportive relationships with patients to support their recovery journey.
- Share your personal story of recovery to inspire and motivate others.
- Collaborate with the team to provide medically necessary functional support services with a recovery focus to patients and their families.
- Maximize patient choice, self-determination, and decision-making in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of treatment, recovery, and support services.
- Assist patients in discovering and maintaining valued roles in the community.
- Facilitate and ensure patient choice, self-determination, and decision-making in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of treatment.
- Provide advocacy and education on behalf of patients and their families to legislators, decision-makers, community members, and agencies about mental health, recovery, and peer support.
- Provide peer counseling and consultation to patients, family members, and team members, and act as a liaison to community services.
- Lived experience of mental illness, substance use disorder, and recovery.
- Ability to establish rapport with patients and build trust.
- Treat patients with dignity and respect, and take a patient-centered approach to services.
- Strong commitment to the right and ability of persons with mental illness and substance misuse disorders to live in the community, work, and have access to appropriate services.
- General knowledge about medications and diagnosis, as well as working knowledge of issues, recovery, and supportive living concepts associated with patients.
- Ability to organize workload and complete clinical and administrative duties in a timely and thorough manner.
- Ability to follow through on responsibilities to the satisfaction of the supervisor or other contact person(s).
- Ability to learn and understand the program's operation and philosophy, and apply this knowledge productively.
- Ability to represent the program, patients, and agency positively in interactions within and outside the agency.
- Bachelor's degree in the Human Services area with emphasis in mental health or personal experience.
- Intentional Peer Support certification, WRAP, MOAB preferred.
- Valid NH driver's license, proof of adequate automobile liability insurance, and reliable transportation required.
This is a grant-funded position, and the grant will run for five years, contingent upon continued grant/restricted funding. The Agency will support you in becoming a Certified Recovery Support Worker and provide monetary support in that endeavor.
