Job Title: Special Education Paraeducator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Paraeducator to join our team. As a Paraeducator, you will play a vital role in supporting students with disabilities in various school settings. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the Special Education Teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and providing instruction to students with diverse learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Special Education Teacher in lesson plan preparation, one-on-one and small group instruction, classroom management, student observation and assessment, and communication with parents and staff.
  • Supervise students and ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Collect and report student progress data, maintaining accurate records.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
  • Provide positive behavior management support, consistent with the IEP or IFSP.
  • Attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students and assisting with personal hygiene needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops, and seminars.
  • Participate as a member of the education team, attending parent conferences as needed.

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Meet one of the following educational requirements: Associate's Degree, 48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university, passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment, passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment, or 65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a special education classroom setting.
  • Knowledge of programs and services for students with disabilities.

Working Conditions:

  • Classroom setting, may move from classroom to classroom to provide services.
  • Provide assistance and attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students and assisting with personal hygiene needs.
  • Sit, stand, and stoop to attend to student's needs and provide instruction.
  • Regular attendance during assigned work schedule.
  • Travel within ESD 112 region for meetings and trainings.

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  • Within three years of employment, meet Washington State Core Competencies for paraeducators as defined in WAC A f).
