Position Overview

The Archdiocese of Baltimore is seeking a dedicated organist for St. Stephen Church in Bradshaw. This role involves collaborating with the Pastor to facilitate meaningful musical experiences that allow parishioners to engage with their faith during liturgical celebrations. The organist plays a crucial role in ensuring that the music enhances the worship experience and fosters a sense of community among attendees. This is a part-time position, requiring 19 hours of work per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Archdiocesan office regarding Child and Youth Protection.

In partnership with the Liturgical music team, the organist will:

  • Provide musical accompaniment for all weekend Masses and various liturgical events, including weddings and funerals (additional compensation available). The organist will be responsible for performing at three Masses each weekend.
  • Develop a diverse repertoire and encourage active participation from the parish community in singing.
  • Assist in the annual planning of liturgical seasons, sacramental events, multicultural celebrations, and other special liturgies.
  • Maintain musical equipment and resources effectively.
  • Serve as a resource for understanding the significance of music in worship and ensuring high-quality liturgical celebrations.
  • Recruit additional musicians as necessary and create an inviting atmosphere for newcomers and those wishing to share their musical talents.
  • Promote a spirit of collaboration and harmony among all music ministers, clergy, and lay staff.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A strong familiarity with Church music literature across various styles and forms.
  • Proficiency in Catholic liturgical practices and a deep understanding of the musical, liturgical, and pastoral considerations involved in selecting appropriate liturgical music.
  • Expertise in playing the organ.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, parish leaders, and volunteers.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational capabilities.
  • A clear vision for dynamic and prayerful worship within the local Church, along with the ability to implement that vision.
  • A supportive understanding of the Catholic Church's teachings, mission, and values is preferred.
