We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Police Officer to join the VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION team. As a Senior Police Officer, you will be responsible for performing a full range of police duties, including law enforcement, physical and personal security operations, patrol duties, control desk duty, coordination with local courts, and crime prevention activities.

Job Summary:

The Senior Police Officer will serve as a key member of our law enforcement team, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our patients, visitors, and staff. You will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, including:

  • Protecting the civil rights of all individuals on VA controlled property
  • Preventing, detecting, and investigating crimes
  • Patrolling assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle
  • Subduing persons causing disturbance or who threaten harm to themselves or others
  • Following rules and procedures concerning search and seizure of evidence and contraband
  • Taking charge of significant and catastrophic events
  • Conducting investigations, apprehensions, and detentions
  • Obtaining search and arrest warrants
  • Arresting violators
  • Using independent judgment in cases where policy is not clear
  • Providing basic first aid and CPR prior to arrival of emergency medical personnel
  • Preparing reports of activities and events that occurred during shift
  • Performing traffic control
  • Assisting citizens in emergency situations
Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service
  • Possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license
  • Be able to possess firearms under the terms of the Gun Control Act of 1968
  • Meet the physical requirements of the position, including the ability to run, climb stairs, and carry items weighing over 50 pounds
  • Pass a background investigation and obtain a security clearance
Working Conditions:

The work involves both moderate and high risks and possible endangerment of life or serious injury that requires the exercise of safety precautions and use of personal protective equipment. The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate to severe discomforts and unpleasantness.

Physical Requirements:

The work requires, on a regular and recurring basis, considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as running, frequent climbing of multiple flights of stairs, and carrying items weighing over 50 pounds.

Education:

There is no educational substitution at this grade level.
