Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse II is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. This role requires a high level of expertise in providing patient-centered care, collaborating with the healthcare team, and making informed decisions to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Perform assessment/data collection in an ongoing systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status.
  2. Formulate a goal-directed plan of care when and where appropriate to do so.
  3. Implement care in a thorough, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
  4. Establish priorities or patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  5. Identify patient/family learning needs and act to meet them.
  6. Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights, age-specific needs, cultural, and ethical beliefs.
  7. Provide/coordinate care for patients/patient populations.
  8. Establish effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team, patients, and families.
  9. Acknowledge staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs.
  10. Delegate appropriately and coordinate duties of healthcare team members.
  11. Evaluate effectiveness of care given by healthcare team members.
  12. Utilize effective communication methods and skills, following lines of authority, as appropriate.
  13. Demonstrate knowledge of and apply safety principles as identified within the institution.
  14. Perform efficiently in emergency patient care situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
  15. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
  16. Participate regularly in staff development activities for unit and department personnel.
  17. Demonstrate knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning.
  18. Participate in unit and department performance improvement activities as directed.
  19. Participate in nursing research activities as requested.
  20. Identify and solve problems effectively.
  21. Demonstrate a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.
  22. Provide data for staffing decisions and demonstrate flexibility in the resolution of staffing issues; demonstrate flexibility when floating to other units upon requests.
  23. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities in documenting, tracking, and conveying information.
  24. Ability to navigate in a windows environment, utilizing a mouse and the ability to learn electronic medical record system application.
