Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct ongoing systematic assessments of patients' physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, as well as their nutritional needs, pain levels, and patient/family education requirements.
  • Develop and implement a goal-directed plan of care when appropriate, taking into account patients' essential needs and available unit resources.
  • Deliver care in a thorough, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner, prioritizing patients' needs based on their essential requirements and available resources.
  • Identify patients' learning needs and take steps to meet them, demonstrating awareness of and sensitivity to patients' rights, age-specific needs, cultural, and ethical beliefs.
  • Provide and coordinate care for patients and patient populations, establishing effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Delegate tasks and coordinate duties of healthcare team members, evaluating the effectiveness of care provided by the team.
  • Utilize effective communication methods and skills, following established lines of authority, as appropriate.
  • Apply safety principles, remaining calm and informed in emergency patient care situations, and documenting events.
  • Take responsibility and accountability for own professional practice, participating in staff development activities, and demonstrating knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management.
  • Participate in unit and department performance improvement activities, as directed, and contribute to nursing research activities as requested.
  • Identify and solve problems effectively, demonstrating a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Provide data for staffing decisions and demonstrate flexibility in resolving staffing issues, as well as floating to other units upon request.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using computers and telecommunication modalities to document, track, and convey information, navigating in a windows environment and learning electronic medical record system applications.
Requirements:
  • 1 year of recent experience in surgical services practice within the last 3 years.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program and completion of the current hours required by the BRN of RN student clinical experience; or Graduate of registered nursing program and either: hours of RN experience in clinical area of specialty from a licensed acute care facility within three (3) years of graduation; or 2) graduate of an accredited licensed vocational nursing program that includes clinical student experience in acute care and has worked 2000 hours as a licensed vocational nurse within the clinical area of specialty within three (3) years before graduation.
  • Registered Nurse License (California).
  • Basic Life Support.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the RN scope of practice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service orientation (members, staff, providers).
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills (in English).
  • Good interpersonal skills.
