Job Overview

Position Title: Quality Control Technician A

Reports To: Quality Control Manager

Employment Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly Full-time)

Compensation: Up to $53.37 per hour


Key Responsibilities

The Quality Control Technician A is tasked with conducting inspections and tests to support the Project Quality Program. This role involves performing necessary inspections throughout the project to ensure that all work executed by Manhattan Mechanical Services adheres to approved plans, relevant codes, and specifications, as well as our QA/QC Manual. Responsibilities also encompass ongoing project documentation, research, and communication efforts. The technician will identify quality issues and engage in their resolution while fostering a positive relationship with clients to minimize costs and enhance safety and reliability.


Work Environment

The typical work setting is within an industrial facility, where exposure to outdoor conditions may occur, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required due to various potential hazards.


Roles & Responsibilities
  • Assist management in creating strategies to mitigate quality risks.
  • Conduct contract reviews to pinpoint quality risks and offer recommendations.
  • Implement and uphold corporate standards for an effective construction quality program.
  • Monitor field operations to ensure compliance with Manhattan Mechanical Services Quality Assurance and Quality Control Manuals and the project's Quality Control Plan.
  • Serve as a resource for project personnel regarding quality knowledge.
  • Assist in formulating the project quality plan.
  • Conduct project quality audits as necessary.
  • Review and participate in investigations to analyze root causes and develop corrective action recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Inspect incoming materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate and communicate quality performance statistics.
  • Document inspections and tests of construction activities.
  • Oversee subcontractor inspection and testing activities.
  • Coordinate and administer welder qualification tests and document results.
  • Maintain a daily log to record significant project facts, events, conditions, delays, visitor interactions, commitments, agreements, and approvals.
  • Enhance the skills of subordinates through goal setting, training, and counseling.
  • Establish and maintain communication to ensure the accurate and timely flow of information.
  • Participate in regular project reviews with project staff, senior management, and clients.
  • Consolidate and distribute quality reports.
  • Provide guidance to management through the interpretation of codes, industry standards, Client Specifications, and Manhattan Mechanical Services quality policies.
  • Foster productive client relationships.
  • Review subcontract documents for quality requirements and provide input into subcontractor quality obligations.
  • Utilize Manhattan Mechanical Services electronic WPS database.
  • Maintain, control, and distribute necessary project quality control documentation.
  • Ensure weld rod control and material controls are implemented on the project.
  • Perform data entry into quality control program systems.
  • Conduct weld mapping and tracking.
  • Inspect and document leak tests conducted on equipment or piping.
  • Oversee code repair work to ensure compliance with ASME and Manhattan Mechanical Services requirements.
  • Have the authority to halt any work when quality is at risk.
  • Fully engage in health, safety, quality, and environmental processes.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in the Petrochemical Industry or a related field.
  • A highly motivated individual capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance with:
    • ASME
    • AWS
    • API
    • MBIC
  • Experience in developing construction work packages from inception to completion.
  • Strong communication skills to convey processes to various stakeholders involved in the project.

Skills:

  • Current CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) or equivalent certification.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings (P&IDs, Isometric, and other engineered drawings).
  • Assist in the qualification of welding procedures.
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • All competencies of QC Technician B.
  • Ability to manage multiple site requirements.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Compliance with Code required experience and education during certification process is acceptable).
  • Must complete the equivalent of three days of continuing education annually.
  • Willingness to attend further training as deemed necessary by Manhattan Mechanical Services.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must pass an annual physical, including code-required visual examinations.
  • Ability to inspect any work area performed by Manhattan Mechanical Services (such as towers, heaters, elevated locations, etc.).
  • Compliance with Manhattan Mechanical Services drug and alcohol policy is mandatory.
  • Must be clean-shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment when required.

Safety/Environmental:

  • Must pass applicable site-specific training and possess knowledge of refinery and chemical plant hazards that may necessitate special precautions and PPE, such as Sulfuric acid, H2S, and HF.
  • Must undertake appropriate safety/environmental training relevant to the position and location.
  • CPR and First Aid training may be required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety instructions, signs, labels, and permits in English.
