Compensation: Up to $53.37 per hour


Primary Responsibilities

The Quality Control Technician A is tasked with conducting inspections and tests in alignment with the Project Quality Program. This role encompasses performing necessary inspections throughout the project to ensure that all work executed by Manhattan Mechanical Services adheres to approved designs, relevant codes, and specifications, as well as our QA/QC Manual. Responsibilities also include maintaining project documentation, conducting research, and facilitating communication. The technician will assist in identifying quality issues and engage in their resolution while fostering a positive relationship with clients to enhance cost efficiency, safety, and reliability.


Work Environment

The typical work setting is within an industrial facility, where exposure to outdoor conditions may occur, necessitating the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) due to various potential hazards.


Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support management in devising strategies to mitigate quality risks.
  • Conduct contract evaluations to pinpoint quality risks and provide recommendations.
  • Establish and uphold corporate standards for an effective construction quality program.
  • Oversee field operations to ensure compliance with Manhattan Mechanical Services' Quality Assurance and Quality Control Manuals and the project's Quality Control Plan.
  • Act as a resource for project personnel regarding quality knowledge.
  • Assist in formulating the project quality plan.
  • Perform project quality audits as necessary.
  • Review and engage in investigations to determine root causes and develop corrective action recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Inspect incoming materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate and communicate quality performance metrics.
  • Document inspections and tests of construction activities.
  • Monitor subcontractor inspection and testing activities.
  • Coordinate and administer welder qualification tests and document results.
  • Maintain a daily log to permanently record significant project facts, events, conditions, delays, visitor interactions, owner representative contacts, commitments, agreements, and approvals.
  • Enhance the skills of subordinates through goal setting, training, and counseling.
  • Establish and maintain communication to ensure accurate and timely information flow.
  • Participate in regular project reviews with project staff, senior management, and clients.
  • Consolidate and distribute quality reports.
  • Provide management with guidance through the interpretation of codes, industry standards, Client Specifications, and Manhattan Mechanical Services quality policies.
  • Foster productive client relationships.
  • Review subcontract documents for quality requirements and contribute to subcontractor quality standards.
  • Utilize Manhattan Mechanical Services' electronic WPS database.
  • Manage, control, and distribute necessary project quality control documentation.
  • Ensure weld rod and material controls are implemented on the project.
  • Perform data entry into quality control program systems.
  • Conduct weld mapping and tracking.
  • Inspect and document leak tests conducted on equipment or piping.
  • Oversee code repair work and ensure compliance with ASME and Manhattan Mechanical Services standards.
  • Hold the authority to halt any work when quality is at risk.
  • Fully engage in health, safety, quality, and environmental processes.

QualificationsExperience
  • At least 5 years of experience in the Petrochemical Industry or a related field.
  • A highly motivated individual capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance with:
    • ASME
    • AWS
    • API
    • MBIC
  • Experience in developing construction work packages from inception to completion.
  • Strong ability to communicate processes to various stakeholders involved in the project.
Skills
  • Must hold current CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification or equivalent.
  • Proficient in reading mechanical drawings (P&IDs, Isometric, and other engineered drawings).
  • Assist in the qualification of welding procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • All qualifications of QC Technician B.
  • Able to manage multiple site requirements.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Compliance with Code required experience and education during certification process is acceptable).
  • Must complete the equivalent of three days of continuing education annually.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training relevant to the job as deemed necessary by Manhattan Mechanical Services.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements
  • Must pass annual physical examinations, including code-required visual assessments.
  • Physically capable of inspecting any work area managed by Manhattan Mechanical Services (including towers, heaters, and elevated locations).
  • Compliance with Manhattan Mechanical Services' drug and alcohol policy is mandatory.
  • Must be clean-shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment when required.
Safety and Environmental Considerations
  • Must successfully complete applicable site-specific training. Knowledge of refinery and chemical plant hazards that may necessitate special precautions and PPE, such as Sulfuric, H2S, and HF.
  • Must undertake appropriate safety/environmental training commensurate with the position and location.
  • CPR and First Aid training may be required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety instructions, signs, labels, and permits in English.
