The Managing Director for Advancement, Washington National Opera, will lead a comprehensive advancement strategy to build out the major gift philanthropy program and take it to new levels of success.
This role will focus on individual major donors and lead both annual and campaigns to increase and diversify the donor base.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for the WNO/Kennedy Center mission and an understanding of the importance and reach of the institution.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a team of eight to create and implement a comprehensive advancement strategy
- Develop and execute a major gift philanthropy program to increase and diversify the donor base
- Lead both annual and campaigns to achieve fundraising goals
- Work closely with WNO Trustees, the Artistic Director, and other stakeholders to advance the mission
- Collaborate with the Kennedy Center Senior Vice President, Development, to align advancement efforts with institutional goals
- Passion for the WNO/Kennedy Center mission and understanding of the institution's importance
- Success driving growth in advancement, preferably in a major not-for-profit cultural institution
- Proven ability to plan and lead a comprehensive advancement program and team
- Experience working with a sophisticated donor base in a complex institutional setting
- Confidence and relationship management skills
- Familiarity with the local and national philanthropic communities
- Major campaign leadership experience
- Success as a frontline cultivator and solicitor of major gifts
- Committed to the principles of equity and inclusion and a history of growing and leading diverse teams
