Job Title: Infrared Systems Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Infrared Systems Engineer to join our team at Northrop Grumman. As an Infrared Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and integrating state-of-the-art EO/IR sensor systems, predicting the performance of your design using proprietary analysis codes, and verifying your predictions and designs by building and testing physical models.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and integrate EO/IR sensor systems
  • Predict the performance of your design using proprietary analysis codes
  • Verify your predictions and designs by building and testing physical models
  • Optimize the design for stealth while meeting the requirements of all other engineering disciplines
  • Take responsibility for achieving customer goals and balancing the design in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment
Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of infrared radiation physics as it relates to aircraft survivability
  • Experience performing visual/IR optics design, fabrication, and test
  • Knowledge of optical system types (refractive and reflective), coatings, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with optics detail design tools and CAD software
  • Experience with imaging MWIR and LWIR sensors for aircraft applications
  • Knowledge of imager radiometric calibration processes
  • Experience with integrating optical systems and sensors into gimbal/turret systems
  • Familiarity with Python, C++, and/or other programming languages
  • Strong interpersonal communication and technical writing skills for effective collaboration with other teams and customers
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of thin film material design, fabrication, and qualifications processes
  • General understanding of aircraft radar signatures and radar cross section reduction techniques
  • Experience with proposal writing and project cost estimation
  • Experience in project and/or supply-chain management

  • A competitive salary range of $165,000 - $247,600
