Mammography and Radiology Specialist

Summary: Expertise in standard operations within the radiology department. Conduct mammograms as instructed by the physician. General x-ray tasks encompass chest, extremities, and cranial radiographic examinations. A significant portion of radiological procedures involves pediatric and podiatry cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute a range of technical duties related to the operation of x-ray machinery to produce radiographs of specified body areas.
- Adjust equipment settings to ensure appropriate radiographic exposure techniques while adhering to radiation safety protocols.
- Conduct all procedures in compliance with established protocols as detailed in procedure manuals, ensuring diagnostic quality meets the standards set by the radiologist and/or community benchmarks.
- Position patients accurately for each anatomical view, utilizing necessary immobilization and protective gear.
- Process images to achieve optimal quality and match them with relevant documentation for interpretation.
- Demonstrate acceptable film quality standards by evaluating positioning and technical factor collimation.
- Adhere to established procedures to guarantee radiation protection for both patients and colleagues.
- Perform safety checks and quality control on equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain essential department records, reports, and files necessary for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Additional Duties:
- Manage the film library, ensuring safety in the department and maintaining patient confidentiality throughout procedures.
- Handle telephone communications, make reminder calls to scheduled patients, and coordinate services with external agencies.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the department and its equipment.
- Provide patients, physicians, and others with proper instructions for examination preparations.
- Uphold established department policies and procedures, including quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Assist the Sonographer and technologists with examinations as needed.
- Offer education and training to students from affiliated radiology technical programs.
- Manage time effectively to ensure patient flow and timely visits within the department; participate in annual departmental time studies.
- Verify and obtain necessary consents and/or referrals for performed procedures.
- Ensure timely interpretation of all exams by a radiologist.
- Maintain compliance with radiation safety regulations and dosimeter badge requirements.
- Operate within the legal and ethical boundaries of the profession, as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, and in accordance with the policies of Peoples Family of Corporations.
Technical Skills:
To excel in this role, candidates should possess knowledge of database and word processing software. Proficiency in computer usage, including BCA systems, Microsoft Word, and Infinity EMR/EHR, is essential.
Certifications:
Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (AART) is required. Candidates should be certified or eligible for Advanced Mammography Qualifications.
