Position: Chief Executive Officer

Organization: Martinez Chamber of Commerce

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is accountable to the Board of Directors and is tasked with providing strategic leadership to the Martinez Chamber of Commerce. Candidates must reside within the Bay Area and be within a reasonable commuting distance from Martinez.

Financial Oversight

- Manage the overall financial health of the Chamber.
- Collaborate with the Board, Treasurer, and Bookkeeper to create and adhere to an annual budget that outlines expected revenues and expenditures, along with projected net income. Provide monthly budget reports at Board meetings.
- Spearhead fundraising initiatives and capital campaigns.
- Regularly assess the financial status of the Chamber.

Human Resource Management

- Supervise the Chamber staff, including recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, and compensation management.
- Mentor and develop the leadership team to ensure consistent, high-level performance.
- Implement continuous improvement strategies and enhance operational practices to optimize results. Establish a management system with key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate staff performance against objectives.
- Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professionalism within the organization.

Operational Responsibilities

- Oversee daily operations of the Chamber, including program management, staffing, membership, and marketing activities.
- Collaborate with the Chair to prepare materials for Board and Executive Committee meetings.
- Set and recommend goals and objectives to the Board.
- Act as the primary spokesperson and representative for the Chamber at various events and meetings.
- Cultivate partnerships with other organizations.
- Support Chamber officers and lead the annual and strategic planning processes.
- Attend committee meetings and provide necessary support for committee initiatives.
- Engage in higher-level membership and sponsorship sales activities.
- Identify and develop revenue-generating programs and events.

Communication and Relationship Building

- Maintain open lines of communication with the Board and collaborate on governance matters.
- Implement a marketing strategy to enhance the Chamber's community image.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with local government agencies, neighboring Chambers, and state-level organizations.
- Develop long-term strategic plans for the Chamber.

Qualifications and Skills

- Exceptional public speaking and presentation abilities.

Experience and Education

- A minimum of 5-10 years of management or executive-level experience in a business-related field or non-profit organization, including staff supervision and financial oversight.
- Previous experience in Chamber management is preferred but not mandatory.
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
