Job Title: Windows Subject Matter Expert

We are seeking an experienced Windows Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our IT team in Washington D.C. as a full-time, 6-month contract-to-hire position. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a strong background in Microsoft technologies, who is eager to contribute to a dynamic and challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, deploy, configure, manage, and maintain Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022) and Windows 10 and 11 desktop environments.
  • Utilize advanced Windows Server features such as Clustering and support Microsoft SQL database servers.
  • Configure and manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to meet both functional and security requirements, including DISA STIG implementation.
  • Build, maintain, and upgrade Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) for Windows 11 workstations, Server 2022/2019/2016 builds, security updates, patching, and application deployments.
  • Manage user identities and access through Active Directory, Entra ID, GPO, Intune, Windows PKI, ADFS, and Okta.
  • Utilize advanced Microsoft PowerShell scripting and develop automated solutions using Microsoft Power BI and Power Platform.
  • Leverage Microsoft 365 for enterprise productivity and Microsoft Azure for scalable application deployment, including HPC, SQL Azure, AI, machine learning, IoT, and analytics.
  • Provide expert troubleshooting and problem resolution in complex IT environments.
  • Stay updated on the latest Microsoft products, services, and best practices, applying them within the organization.
  • Document system configurations, processes, and procedures to maintain a reliable IT knowledge base.
  • Mentor and train technical staff and end-users to optimize the use of Windows and Microsoft technologies.
  • Operate within a high-availability VMware environment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience, including 8+ years as a Windows SME in an enterprise-scale environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022) and Windows 10 and 11 Enterprise.
  • Expertise in Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and security configurations.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365, Intune, Azure AD/Entra ID, Windows PKI, Clustering, SQL Server, and Networking.
  • Must hold at least one of the following: CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP or similar.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert and/or Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate.
  • Knowledge of Cisco UCS compute, UCS Manager, and Intersight.
  • Experience with modern NetApp storage arrays.
  • Familiarity with VMware vCenter, ESXi, and especially SRM.
  • Linux server management, particularly Oracle Linux or other Red Hat Linux-based distributions.
