POSITION OVERVIEW:
An Independent Contractor Interpreter plays a crucial role in facilitating interpretation sessions for clients of CyraCom, ensuring a professional and focused environment while utilizing the necessary tools to deliver precise and comprehensive interpretation services.
Interpreters are expected to uphold a high standard of skill, proficiency, and professionalism in their interpreting duties. Given the sensitive nature of the information handled during interpretation sessions, maintaining a high level of integrity and confidentiality is essential at all times.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Delivers meaning-for-meaning interpretation. Adheres to interpreter protocols and procedures as mandated by CyraCom clients. Complies with all CyraCom policies and procedures regarding information confidentiality and interpreter ethics. Continuously enhances vocabulary and specialized knowledge in various subject areas, including medical, legal, and social services, as required by different clients.REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficiency in English and the target language. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and the target language. Basic understanding of linguistics and cultural nuances. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations. Capacity to remain calm and effective in emergency scenarios. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative within the framework of policies and procedures set by CyraCom's client standards. Proficient in using standard office equipment such as telephones, computers, copiers, and fax machines.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
We seek experienced candidates who meet a combination of required and preferred qualifications.
Required:
Experience in interpretation (e.g., medical, court, or government interpretation; for less commonly spoken languages, interpreting within community settings, family, or during community service).OR
Professional interpreter certification or relevant training.Preferred:
A two- to four-year degree in interpretation. Higher education conducted in English or another working language. Experience in related fields outside of interpretation (e.g., healthcare).As an Independent Contractor Interpreter, you will operate as a vendor, providing language interpretation services on an IRS Form 1099 basis.
