We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Law Clerk II/Division Attorney to join our team at the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois. As a key member of our Domestic Relations Division, you will provide critical support to our judges and staff in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research and analysis of legal issues presented for brief or argument, utilizing a queue system to ensure timely and accurate results.
- Writing and Drafting: Assist in drafting and proofreading opinions, orders, professional correspondence, and public information documents, ensuring clarity and precision in all written communications.
- Reporting and Communication: Report on new legislation and case law to judges, and provide regular updates on key developments and trends in family law.
- Meeting and Event Planning: Help prepare for and participate in monthly Division Meetings, and coordinate with court stakeholders as needed.
- Administrative Support: Draft General Administrative Orders, create and revise form orders, and propose amendments to Local Court Rules, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Customer Service: Respond to questions and concerns from self-represented litigants, providing clear and concise guidance and support.
- Mentorship and Training: Mentor judicial externs supervised by judges, and support the Presiding Judge in preparation of seminars and other presentations.
- Confidentiality and Discretion: Maintain confidentiality while performing duties, and exercise discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Website Maintenance: Monitor and update the Domestic Relations Division website and materials prepared for self-represented litigants, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor degree, with a strong interest in family law and a background in legal research and analysis.
- License and Certification: Licensed to practice law in Illinois, with a strong understanding of family law and relevant court procedures.
- Skills and Abilities: Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work well with others and collaborate with legal and non-legal personnel.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications for word processing, spreadsheet, database, and legal research/writing, with a strong understanding of relevant software and systems.
