Position Overview

The Institutional Research Specialist role is integral to the Center for Institutional Effectiveness, focusing on the establishment and execution of a comprehensive institutional research initiative. This grant-funded role is pivotal in supplying essential data and research support for grant formulation and assessment.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Extracting and structuring data from relevant sources, including Ellucian Colleague, and performing data analysis utilizing appropriate statistical tools.
  • Conducting both quantitative and qualitative analyses, which includes the creation of research, planning, outcomes assessment, and evaluation studies.
  • Assisting in the design and execution of research initiatives that bolster grant applications and institutional decision-making, while also addressing external inquiries and requirements.
  • Developing suitable research instruments, surveys, questionnaires, and data collection methodologies, which includes organizing focus groups, meetings, and grant timelines.
  • Effectively communicating research findings in both written and verbal formats to diverse audiences.
  • Addressing ad-hoc data inquiries from college administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintaining and refreshing formal reports and publications about the institution, such as fact books, dashboards, data briefs, and other data visualization formats to enhance engagement and comprehension of institutional data.
  • Providing research guidance and support to faculty, staff, and institutional decision-makers.
  • Facilitating the development and execution of the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA) related to the Perkins Grant.
  • Gathering and analyzing internal data, including preparing the Perkins/Vocational Education Data System (VEDS) file and program dashboards, focusing on CTE program and student performance as well as the achievement of state-negotiated standards.
  • Collecting and evaluating feedback from various Perkins-defined stakeholders, including K-12 and higher education partners, Workforce Development Board, students and parents, Native American Tribes, and special populations.
  • Analyzing external data, which includes local and regional K-12, census and economic data, employment/labor market data, and industry feedback.
  • Assisting in the evaluation of Perkins data, with an emphasis on program size, scope, and quality to identify and address programmatic/service deficiencies.
  • Collaborating with deans, department chairs, faculty, Grants staff, and other personnel to analyze and interpret CLNA findings and Perkins outcomes.
  • Executing additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Dean of Research and Institutional Effectiveness, or other designated management.

Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Education Psychology, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Political Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years in educational or social science research, encompassing research design, statistics, data analysis, and report preparation. Experience with grants is advantageous.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistics and research methodologies; proven skills in research design and data analysis.
  • Understanding of grant development, implementation, and evaluation processes.
  • Proficiency in the complete Microsoft Office suite and database/statistical software (e.g., SPSS).
  • Ability to write queries similar to SQL, with a strong attention to detail and the capability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently.
  • Comprehension of the community college mission and a commitment to an open-door policy.
  • Ability to maintain a balanced and positive approach to all work activities and collaborate effectively across various college constituencies and with external partners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on customer and student engagement, relationship building, organization, and planning.
  • Technological proficiency in common office software and familiarity with cloud-based computing and collaborative platforms.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual Salary: $60,000.
  • Health benefits include the NJ Educators Health Plan with complimentary Vision and Dental coverage, along with participation in the NJ State Pension plan.
  • Generous leave policy including 23 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, all designated holidays, and 5 non-designated holidays annually, plus 3 Partial Sick Days.
