Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Underwriter to join our team at Burns & Wilcox. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining a book of transportation business, managing agency relationships, and creating and executing marketing plans to increase new and renewal business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, maintain, and grow a book of transportation business by identifying and pursuing new opportunities and developing strong relationships with clients and agencies.
  • Manage agency relationships and serve as the lead client contact, providing exceptional service and support to ensure client satisfaction and retention.
  • Create and execute marketing plans to increase new and renewal business, including developing and implementing sales strategies and tactics.
  • Rate, quote, and bind each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing for large or complex renewals as well as new business, using your expertise and knowledge of the transportation industry.
  • Develop and submit underwriting referrals to company brokerage facilities and Burns & Wilcox management, ensuring that all referrals are thoroughly evaluated and presented in a clear and concise manner.
  • Monitor key metrics to formulate corrective action impacting new business hit, renewal retention, premium growth, and loss ratio, using data-driven insights to inform business decisions.
  • Lead, train, and develop Assistant and Associate Underwriters, providing guidance and mentorship to help them grow and develop in their careers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of transportation underwriting or brokerage experience required, with excess and surplus experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in sales and marketing, with a proven track record of success in developing and executing business plans.
  • Proven organization skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Interest in continued education and professional development, with a commitment to staying up-to-date on industry trends and best practices.
  • Insurance license, CPCU, CIC, or comparable designations preferred.
