Job Summary

Orlando Health is seeking a highly skilled Learning and Development Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare organization, this individual will be responsible for enhancing the clinical competence of our team members through education and training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Coordinate Education Programs: Design and implement education programs to enhance the clinical competence of team members, utilizing an Education Action Plan and annual Needs Assessment.
  • Coordinate Orientation Process: Develop and coordinate the orientation process for assigned areas, meeting with orientees, preceptors, and members of the nursing leadership team as needed.
  • Participate in Quality and Safety Initiatives: Actively participate in quality and safety initiatives to ensure team members are improving practice and meeting quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Education: Collaborate with Corporate Education to assess ongoing competence of clinical team members.
  • Plan and Evaluate Unit-Specific Programs: Plan, develop, coordinate, and evaluate unit-specific programs to maintain or increase the skill and knowledge of team members.
  • Integrate Adult Learning Principles: Ensure adult learning principles are integrated into all programs.
  • Facilitate Team Member Involvement: Facilitate and support team member involvement in professional and organizational activities.
  • Maintain Proficiency in Assigned Role: Maintain proficiency in assigned role by participating in direct nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate Professional Accountability: Demonstrate professional accountability by involvement in educational or health-related professional organizations.
  • Provide Input for Clinical Evaluation: Provide input for the clinical evaluation of team members.
  • Participate in Selection and Evaluation: Participate in the selection, evaluation, and hiring of potential team members.
  • Facilitate Professional Development: Facilitate professional development of team members through utilization of educational courses.
  • Assess and Provide Education: Assess and provide education to maintain ongoing knowledge and compliance of organizational, regulatory policies, and procedures.
  • Utilize Evidence-Based Practice: Utilize evidenced-based, quality clinical nursing practice consistent with nursing research, organizational, and national practice standards.
  • Effectively Express Ideas: Effectively express ideas in verbal and written communication to team members and groups.
  • Embrace and Communicate Change: Embrace, communicate, and promote change.
  • Complete Sunrise Documentation: Complete Sunrise documentation intermediate class and maintain competency in EMR systems, including Sunrise documentation.
  • Participate in Formal Education Presentations: Participate in formal education presentations, e.g., core specialty courses, corporate-sponsored education programs, or guest lecturing for academic courses.
  • Present at Conferences: Present at a local, state, regional, or national conference.
  • Develop Test Questions: Develop test questions for Annual Clinical Review (ACR) online testing database, utilizing test construction principles, and assemble unit-specific ACR test.
  • Facilitate Skills Portion of ACR: Facilitate and participate in the skills portion of the ACR.
  • Serve as Preceptor: Serve as a preceptor for the Learning Specialist I roles.
  • Participate in Committees and Initiatives: Participate in unit-specific, site-specific, or corporate committees and/or educational initiatives that influence organizational outcomes.
  • Participate in Professional Development Opportunities: Participate in professional development opportunities that increase his/her effectiveness in the role.
  • Create Opportunities for Critical Thinking: Create opportunities to develop critical thinking and critical reasoning skills for all team members.
  • Provide Development Programs: Provide development programs for preceptor growth.
  • Utilize Critical Thinking and Knowledge Assessments: Utilize critical thinking and knowledge assessments to plan orientation.
  • Demonstrate Knowledge of Research Process: Demonstrate knowledge of the research process; interpret and use evidence-based practice guidelines in addressing learning needs.
  • Collaborate with Student Coordinator: Collaborate with student coordinator for student placement and communicate with nursing instructor regarding student assignment.
  • Maintain Regular Attendance: Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintain Compliance with Policies and Procedures: Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Education/Training: Graduate from an approved school of nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida required. National specialty certification in area of practice must be obtained within two (2) years of hire, except in cases where there is no certification available. Basic life support, advanced life support, pediatric advanced life support, neonatal resuscitation program certification as required by department or unit.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of acute care hospital experience required.
