Job Title: Crime Analyst Senior

Join Placer County's team of dedicated professionals as a Crime Analyst Senior. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in overseeing and managing the Crime Analysis Unit, providing strategic leadership on emergency workflows for critical incidents and criminal investigations.

Job Summary:

The Crime Analyst Senior is responsible for planning, prioritizing, and supervising the work of assigned staff, ensuring that tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner. This role requires a high degree of broad-based and specialized knowledge, including principles of supervision, training, and evaluating performance, as well as principles and practices of leadership, motivation, team building, and conflict resolution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of assigned staff.
  • Work with management staff to develop and implement unit goals and objectives.
  • Evaluate operations and activities of the unit and recommend improvements and modifications.
  • Develop and implement policies, guidelines, operations, and procedures for the unit.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new technology.
  • Collect, research, and analyze complex or highly sensitive law enforcement, crime, and intelligence data.
  • Develop and maintain specialized databases, files, and records.
  • Prepare predictive and descriptive technical reports regarding crime patterns, individuals, associations, flow, operations, and threats.
  • Prepare a variety of bulletins and other time-sensitive informational materials for dissemination of information.
  • Plan, collect, and analyze open-source information from the internet.
  • Work with staff from other agencies, departments, or staff to identify requirements for intelligence/crime analysis products.
  • Review and analyze current/proposed legislation and advise management on the impact or potential impact.
  • Ensure that records and information are documented, retained, and discarded in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  • May represent the work unit as required.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records and statistics.
  • Participate in committees and task forces.
  • Conduct briefings and/or presentations of crime and intelligence information for employees and outside agency staff.
  • Conduct special projects and staff training related to crime analysis and related computer system applications.
  • Assist with research, analysis, and feedback on long-term projects.
  • Provide tactical and real-time intelligence for in-progress incidents.
Requirements:
  • Two (2) years of responsible professional experience in a law enforcement agency performing duties similar to a Crime Analyst II with Placer County.
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, crime analysis, law enforcement/public safety, public administration, intelligence studies, homeland security, statistics and research methodology, computer science, geographic information systems, or a related field.
  • Possession of a Crime and Intelligence Analysis certification or equivalent comparable certification.
Working Conditions:

Work is performed in both an indoor office environment with controlled temperature conditions and in the field requiring travel to various locations throughout the County in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.

Selection Procedure:

Training & Experience Rating (100%): Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant's education, training, and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula.
