JOB SUMMARY

This position is part of the Operations team and is responsible for supporting the Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Technician III in the upkeep and repair of material handling machinery and industrial batteries.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to all workplace safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Possess knowledge of control systems and low voltage electrical systems (AC and DC).
  • Perform minor electrical repairs and welding tasks as required.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on the MHE fleet, including checking and replenishing oil levels, inspecting and replacing belts and chains, troubleshooting electrical control issues, and performing safety checks.
  • Understand hydraulic and electrical systems, including distribution center systems, drive motors, and electrical controls.
  • Have a basic understanding of mechanical systems such as transmissions, braking systems, and steering systems.
  • Assist with special projects related to facility maintenance, including light carpentry, painting, and minor plumbing tasks.
  • Support battery technicians with tasks such as battery charger repairs and maintenance of battery areas.
  • Participate in the departmental on-call program as assigned.
  • Log time and materials into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) daily.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all maintenance areas.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are kept in safe, working condition.
  • Comply with all safety requirements and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies to ensure safety within the facility.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the department.
  • Follow OSHA and other relevant regulations.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding attire, grooming, and attendance.
  • Build effective relationships and demonstrate cooperation with team members.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Technical school or equivalent experience preferred (2 years).

Experience

  • Four years in a maintenance role for MHE or a related field.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Valid state Driver's License and proof of liability coverage.
  • Completion of a Sysco-approved defensive driving program.
  • Powered Industrial Equipment Certification from Sysco within 3 months.
  • MHE maintenance technician certification from an MHE manufacturer.

Professional Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and regulations.
  • Proficient in basic mathematical operations.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to communicate effectively.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands for various tasks.
  • Occasionally required to lift and move items up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this role include close and distance vision.

Working Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to varying environmental conditions and mechanical parts.
  • Non-traditional hours may be required, including evenings and weekends.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary for training or business needs.
  • Exposure to confined spaces and high places may occur.
  • Noise levels in the work environment are typically moderate.
