Position Summary:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist operates under the supervision of the Radiologist to conduct a range of standard and advanced nuclear medicine imaging procedures. This role involves the use of radiopharmaceuticals to assist in the assessment and diagnosis of medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the receipt, storage, handling, and administration of radioactive material doses.
- Administer diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals to patients.
- Evaluate physician orders and gather relevant patient medical history.
- Execute imaging procedures utilizing a gamma camera and perform necessary post-processing tasks.
- Collaborate with the cardiopulmonary department to coordinate stress test imaging.
- Conduct quality control assessments on imaging equipment, including the camera, dose calibrator, and survey meters.
- Ensure patient data is integrated with PACS and EMR systems to maintain records and monitor radiation exposure.
- Coordinate with service vendors and report any equipment malfunctions to management.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Experience:
- At least one year of relevant experience is preferred.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Certification in BLS or CPR is required.
- Certification from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency in Nuclear Medicine is necessary.
- Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board is required.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficient in IV access.
- Knowledge of radiation safety protocols.
FLSA Classification:
This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Employees in non-exempt roles are eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek, in accordance with applicable regulations.
