We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Robotics Systems Design Engineer to join our team at Apptronik. As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots that can operate in human spaces and with human tools.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and experience in electric actuation design, including electric motors, drivetrains, electromechanical packaging, joint/mechanism design, and testing. You will work closely with a small cross-disciplinary team of engineers to collaborate on creative brainstorming, conduct engineering analysis, and compare concepts via iterative design, prototype, assembly, and test.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to drive concept generation
  • Conduct thorough engineering analysis to inform design decisions
  • Develop detailed designs for actuators (linear and rotary)
  • Perform analysis (FEA, etc.) to optimize and validate design
  • Create GD&T-informed drawings, Bill of Materials, and procurement documentation
  • Produce assembly instructions and finalize project documentation
  • Pilot build and iterate on design to ensure scalability and DFMA

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in development of actuation and/or robot systems
  • Mastery of engineering fundamentals / first principles
  • High proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Knowledge of kinematics, structures (statics), dynamics, joints/mechanisms, and electromechanical packaging optimization
