Job Overview

Position Summary

The Analytical Scientist plays a crucial role in overseeing the setup and upkeep of analytical instruments, ensuring quality assurance, and driving continuous enhancements in in-house analytical techniques. This includes the extraction and examination of samples using HPLC and other sophisticated scientific equipment to facilitate the production and innovation of cannabis-infused consumer goods.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the complete analytical workflow, from sample preparation to data interpretation utilizing advanced analytical tools such as HPLC.
  • Guarantee precise potency evaluations on homogenized oils, extracts, and various raw cannabis materials.
  • Assist in production batch documentation by allocating necessary raw cannabis components.
  • Administer the calibration and functioning of analytical instruments, particularly HPLC, within the on-site laboratory to support production activities.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair analytical equipment while managing the inventory of consumable parts.
  • Travel to various facilities for training, instrument setup, troubleshooting, and collaboration with external regulatory laboratories.
  • Develop quality control charts, maintain sample records, and implement strategies that convert data into actionable business insights.
  • Utilize company-approved software, including Acumatica, METRC, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and other project management tools.
  • Create internal Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for both in-process and finished production samples.
  • Analyze and validate the results of cannabis materials prior to their utilization in production.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to extraction, analysis, and production of cannabis-infused goods.
  • Collaborate with third-party compliance laboratories to conduct matrix validations ahead of new product launches, ensuring minimal delays.
  • Provide analytical assistance with potency evaluations for new product development, including assessments of shelf life and stability.

Compensation

$82,000 USD annually

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience with HPLC is preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory quality control and analytical extraction techniques.
  • Experience in the cannabis industry is advantageous.

Physical Requirements

  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Mechanical dexterity with precision instruments.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Engagement in sitting, walking, standing, reaching, pushing, or pulling with arms and hands.
  • Use of hands and fingers for handling items.
  • Effective communication abilities.
