Job Title: Research Engineer

At Apple, we're looking for a talented Research Engineer to join our Camera Algorithm team. As a key member of this team, you'll be responsible for developing next-generation image capture, processing, and rendering algorithms for our cameras.

About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled engineer with a strong background in image processing and computer vision. Your primary focus will be on researching and developing novel algorithms to improve image and video quality across all Apple product cameras.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement novel tone mapping algorithms in high-level software languages such as Matlab or Python
  • Collaborate with hardware design teams to develop new image processing blocks improving image quality
  • Influence the artistic look of Apple cameras across different product categories and modalities
  • Define and develop feature proposals for different use cases targeting consumer and professional markets
Requirements
  • BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
  • Track record of developing image processing algorithms, such as auto white balance, tone mapping, auto exposure, and high dynamic range capture
  • Validated coding skills in Matlab or Python
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with a digital camera image processing pipeline and the Image Signal Processor (ISP)
  • Understanding of image quality metrics and subjective evaluations
  • Proven knowledge of HDR encoding standards
  • Prior experience with professional video content postproduction and color grading workflows
