Job Title: DeafBlind Employment Specialist

Helen Keller Services is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated DeafBlind Employment Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals who are DeafBlind or have a combined hearing and vision loss to achieve their employment goals.

Job Summary:

The DeafBlind Employment Specialist will provide one-on-one and group-based direct services to consumers in the state of Indiana, focusing on vocational rehabilitation, job development, job placement, and coaching. You will work collaboratively with local service providers to develop a team to execute Individualized Plans for Employment (IPE) and identify service gaps and unmet needs of consumers with our Regional Representative and community partners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct services to consumers, including vocational rehabilitation, job development, job placement, and coaching.
  • Collaborate with consumers, community partners, and local service providers to develop IPEs and identify service gaps.
  • Assist with outreach efforts to educate Vocational Rehabilitation personnel about the capabilities of DeafBlind individuals and share HKNC services/programs.
  • Identify professional learning opportunities and assist with the initial assessments for trainings needed in the region.
  • Provide training and mentorship to community and state employment specialists to expand awareness, knowledge, and advocacy efforts about work-site related accommodations.
  • Support the DeafBlind Projects working with transition age youth, their families, and educational personnel, linking educational teams with VR and other resources.
  • Conduct outreach efforts with Veteran's Administration and senior adult & aging programs to promote information about Confident Living Program opportunities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required; MA degree preferred in vocational rehabilitation, Deaf Education, Special Education, multiple disabilities, or related degree.
  • Knowledge of Braille and sign language. Fluency in American Sign Language is preferred or candidate must become proficient within two years of employment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
