Overview:

We are seeking a skilled individual to manage the setup and operation of computer numerically controlled (CNC) milling machines. The role involves executing machining tasks such as boring, milling, contouring, facing, and threading various materials including castings, forgings, and bar stock.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret process sheets, blueprints, and part sketches to ascertain machining requirements, dimensional specifications, and operational guidelines;
  • Modify existing programs under supervision as needed;
  • Enhance programs for improved efficiency and troubleshooting;
  • Secure workpieces in chucks, faceplates, or fixtures;
  • Select and install preset tooling in accordance with process specifications;
  • Initiate and conduct machining operations;
  • Monitor numerical control displays to ensure compliance with process sheet data regarding dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and machining speeds;
  • Adjust machine performance by manipulating dials and switches;
  • Conduct inspections on initial and subsequent pieces to ensure adherence to specifications;
  • Organize materials for upcoming orders to minimize cycle and setup times;
  • Pre-set tools prior to installation in the milling machine;
  • Operate additional machine tools during machining cycles;
  • Process both metallic and non-metallic materials;
  • Utilize setup sheets and written instructions to operate CNC machines with minimal oversight;
  • Employ various inspection instruments to verify work without supervision;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cutting tools and determine appropriate machine speeds and feeds;
  • Perform basic maintenance on equipment;
  • Understand shop routers and SPC charts through training, ensuring product acceptance via operator verification;
  • Execute other assigned tasks as necessary.

Supervisory Role:

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum of three years of machine shop experience and five years of CNC experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must be able to interpret safety regulations, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work with mathematical concepts applicable to practical situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Lean methodologies, 5S training, and familiarity with network environments is advantageous. Proficiency with Hurco machines and controls (both conversational and 'G' Code) is preferred, as well as experience in selecting cutting tools, insert tools, and utilizing various measuring equipment.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The physical requirements for this role include regular communication, frequent sitting, and occasional standing, walking, and handling tools. Employees may be exposed to production floor conditions, including moving mechanical parts and potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles. Lifting requirements include regularly moving up to 10 pounds, frequently moving up to 25 pounds, and occasionally moving up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
