Position Overview:

CommonSpirit Health is a leading healthcare organization dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and fostering a supportive work environment. We are currently seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Specialist to enhance our laboratory team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a variety of microbiological tests, including:
    • Bacterial culture and identification
    • Antimicrobial susceptibility assessments
    • Mycology and parasitology evaluations
    • Molecular diagnostics
    • Blood culture analysis
    • Quality control and maintenance of laboratory instruments
  • Evaluate and interpret laboratory findings, ensuring precision and prompt reporting.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of all laboratory procedures and results.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow laboratory personnel and healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Engage in departmental quality assurance and enhancement initiatives.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and protocols.
  • Support the training and development of new laboratory staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Ongoing education and training to stay updated with current practices.
  • Experience in reading various culture types and setting up both traditional and molecular cultures is essential.
  • Required training in:
    • Hematology
    • Chemistry
    • Blood Banking
    • Microbiology
    • Immunology and Serology as applicable
  • Possession of a California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or Limited California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License is mandatory.
  • California Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist License and California Clinical Microbiologist Scientist License are preferred, along with ASCP registry.
  • LA fire card is required (must be obtained within 90 days of hire). Classes are available at the facility.
