As a result of sales growth and expansion our client, a growing privately held company with steady yearly growth, has hired us to find an exceptional Sr Manager of R&D. Our client is a highly regarded industry leader in the CPG manufacturing industry also this company is ranked in the Top 100 Best and their products can be found in many fine retail stores. This position will be based in the San Fernando Valley (Northridge area). Our client is committed to hiring the best talent so the total compensation package being offered will reflect that, but they are targeting plus or minus $150k base plus benefit package. The Sr Manager of R&D will create innovative and quality products that are stable and in line with customer needs. The Sr Manager of R&D will ensure that products are developed in a timely fashion and provide the necessary direction to do so. They will also present technical innovations to clients and provide R&D support as needed for smooth seamless transitions of development to production. The Sr Manager of R&D manages all phases of the R&D process, making sure products are within price targets, have been evaluated and meet client needs, have gone through preliminary testing, and include all targets as outlined by the project brief. Essential Functions • Product Development: Plays a critical role in the development, scale-up, and manufacturing of CPG products. • Quality Control: Responsible for raising alerts if processes are not being followed, with a keen eye for detail. • Project Management: Collects project status updates, adheres to strict timelines, and provides clear direction to the team. • Timely Delivery: Ensures projects are delivered on promised dates, backing up all statements with detailed data. • Formula Creation: Develops new formulas for both new and existing business opportunities. • Client Collaboration: Works under the direction of the VP of R&D Operations, Sales and Marketing to create new formulas and match client benchmarks. • Supplier Interface: Communicates needs to partner suppliers, acquires innovative materials, and formulates compliant, state-of-the-art products. • Team Leadership: Provides direction and follow-up to ensure timely project completion, guiding a large team of chemists with technical support and oversight. • Compliance and Documentation: Adheres to company guidelines, SOPs, and good laboratory practices. Writes and enters formulas into the R&D system, creates clear, replicable processes, and tests finished products using lab instrumentation. • Vendor Relations: Meets with new vendors to source raw materials and innovative materials, and to expand industry knowledge. Supervisory Responsibility This position supervises the R&D department and Product Development. Supervision includes, 1 Manager of Product Development & R&D Operations, 1 Regulatory Affairs Manager, 1 Sr. Regulatory Analyst, 1 Sr. Analytical Chemist & Regulatory Affairs, 1 R&D Stability & Compatibility Coordinator, and 1 R&D compounding Specialist.
