Job Title: Director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities

Job Summary:

The University of Colorado Denver is seeking a highly qualified and experienced academic leader to serve as the Director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities. This is a part-time position that will provide academic, strategic, and operational leadership for campus-wide initiatives supporting undergraduate research and creative activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, advising, and programming for all URCA programs.
  • Organize and host the annual Research & Creative Activities Symposium (RaCAS) showcasing student work.
  • Build relationships with students, faculty, and staff to support program initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other programs including University Honors, McNair, MARC-U STAR, and others.
  • Exercise fiscal oversight for annual budget and grant funds.
  • Oversee processes including job posting, hiring, timesheets, and terminating ~80 EUReCA student assistants each year, including evaluation of Work Study eligibility.
  • Seek funding from internal and external sources to support and expand programs.
  • Participate in maintenance and reporting for existing external grants.
  • Maintain a website, social media presence, and other outreach outlets to promote awareness and participation in programs.
  • Supervise the work of a Senior Program Coordinator and 3-4 student workers.

Requirements:

  • Earned terminal degree in any academic discipline from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Rostered faculty member at CU Denver.
  • Strong professional track record of scholarly research or creative activities.
  • Significant experience teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduates.
  • Experience with budget management and oversight.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working across institutional boundaries.
  • Proven track record acquiring funding for research or creative activities.
  • Experience organizing public events.
  • Administrative, supervisory, and/or leadership experience.
  • Creation and/or execution of programs that are informed by best-practices.
  • Concrete experience with learning assessment and program evaluation.
  • Seven years of experience as a rostered faculty member or equivalent appointment at another institution.

  • Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and student success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving undergraduate students and creating rich educational experiences for them.
  • Skills in identifying problems, analyzing data, and making recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with university constituencies, including administrators, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the institution.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Skilled in communicating effectively in writing, public presentations, and individual or group consultations.
  • A demonstrated ability to integrate principles of equity and inclusion into programs and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.
  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.
