Job Summary

This role involves serving as an educator within the Building Trades department, where the primary responsibility is to mentor students through various construction projects, including residential structures, compact homes, and storage units. Instruction will cover essential skills such as framing, roofing, and both interior and exterior finishing techniques.

The position is funded through a grant, which may influence the duration of employment.

In this role, you will create, manage, and engage in diverse learning environments and activities that empower students to reach their full potential and meet their educational goals. Collaboration with fellow faculty and staff is essential to foster the overall success of the department and the institution, as well as to support the interests of both staff and students.

Essential Duties: This position necessitates significant hands-on interaction with students, faculty, and staff, requiring a physical presence to fulfill the essential responsibilities outlined below.

General:
  • Designs, develops, and delivers structured learning experiences for students based on approved course outlines relevant to their curriculum.
  • Provides technical instruction in a secure and supportive environment.
  • Creates, administers, and evaluates assessments.
  • Explores and implements strategies to enhance teaching effectiveness by reviewing available educational resources.
  • Engages in all facets of program and departmental planning, including setting goals and objectives aimed at improving student success and program outcomes.
  • Maintains accountability for student progress and inventory within classroom and office settings.
Curriculum:
  • Develops instructional materials, including course outlines, syllabi, and other educational resources.
  • Contributes to program enhancement and development to align with current industry standards.
Communication:
  • Ensures effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
  • Establishes a professional rapport with students, staff, and administration, showing respect for all parties involved.
  • Provides opportunities for out-of-class communication with students.
  • Participates in departmental and institutional meetings as appropriate.
  • Engages in the activities of program advisory committees.
  • Represents the institution to external stakeholders as necessary.
  • Encourages a collegial atmosphere in interactions with college staff.
Student Support, Assessment, and Reporting:
  • Takes on academic advising responsibilities for students within the instructor's area of expertise.
  • Keeps current and accurate records of academic progress, attendance, course grades, competency evaluations, and any disciplinary documentation.
  • Maintains comprehensive student files.
  • Is knowledgeable about college assessment and placement procedures and is aware of campus resources.
  • Provides accurate outcome data regarding student withdrawal, graduation, placement, and licensure.
  • Participates in departmental and institutional initiatives aimed at recruiting, advising, and retaining students.
Leadership and Professional Development:
  • Exhibits leadership and professionalism within the learning environment.
  • Encourages the development of professional attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors among students by modeling appropriate conduct and intervening when necessary.
  • Demonstrates respect for all students and college personnel.
  • Collaborates with the instructional team to address issues impacting student training.
